 Men are drinking twice as much alcohol as women, figures for 2006 suggest.

Data from the Office for National Statistics suggest men drink an average of 18.7

units a week, compared with 9.0 units for women.

Depression is common. Symptoms can affect day-to-day life and can become very distressing. Treatments include talking treatments and antidepressant medicines. Treatment takes time to work but has a good chance of success. Some people have recurring episodes of depression and require long-term treatment to keep symptoms away

If you have osteoporosis it means that you have lost some bone material. The bones become less dense and more 'honeycombed'. This makes them more prone to break (fracture). Osteoporosis mainly affects older people and can affect anyone. However, some people have an increased risk of developing osteoporosis (detailed below). You can take measures to prevent or slow down bone loss. If you have osteoporosis, drugs can help to restore bone.

 The root cause of most cases of cardiovascular disease is a build up of atheroma - a fatty deposit within the inside lining of arteries. Lifestyle factors that can reduce the risk of forming atheroma and developing cardiovascular diseases include: not smoking, choosing healthy foods, regular physical activity, keeping your weight and waist size down, and drinking alcohol in moderation. If you have a high risk of developing a cardiovascular disease, drug treatment to reduce blood pressure and/or cholesterol may also be advised. A daily low dose of aspirin is also advised for some people at high risk.
